Journey of Ages

BY HEATHER BRISCO

I read a book the other day
The words leaping off in e'vry way
As each page was turned
Another problem conquered and burned
Visions dancing within the spine
Taking shape and depth with each line
Each paragraph finished took me away
To a better or different day
In a place I'd yet to see
And probably never really be
The last page finished
The journey no less diminished
As I am transported back
To reality, the book goes on the rack.

This is one of my favorite poems I have have written to date.  It tells a message about how reading can transport the reader faraway when it might other wise be impossible. Reading helped me make it through many difficult situations growing up (the hardest highschool) and I think it cannot be encouraged too much, as we all have brains and we can all benefit if we used more of them conductively!

Literacy is important! Support reading mentors or become one yourself.
